The Credit Card Business has a developing history more than 50 years since the first credit card appeared in 1950's in the world. As a multi-functional financial product, it gradually gathers depositing & drawing, transferring & balancing, consuming and circulating credit together, and is now more and more favored by people. In western developed countries, credit card is playing great important roles in the whole domestic economy's development. It has become the main paying mode for consumers to buy products and labor force, and also greatly stimulated the development of personal consuming credit business. At the same time, it has changed the traditional ways of competing and profiting, and has become the sign of many commercial banks in western countries. Nowdays, the credit card business is the main source of incomes for some famous banks in the countries with highly developed economy, and becomes the core of the competition among the commercial banks. In our country, the credit card business started comparatively late. In 1985, the Bank of China issued the first credit card in the mainland. Today, the 4 famous state-owned commercial banks, which are the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the Agricultural Bank of China, the Bank of China and the Chinese Construction Bank, have already held the absolutely leading places in this field. However, we still have many distances in comparing with the consummation and maturation of the business credit card industry in the countries with highly developed economy. And there are many problems in actual operation and management from both subjective cognition and objective facts.Entering into WTO means that our financial markets should be much more opened. Therefore, credit card business, with its rich returns, strongmarket infiltrations and broad brand influences, will certainly be the first target for the foreign banks to scramble our financial markets. Under the circumstances, it is very important to research the distances in this field between our state-owned commercial banks and those in developed countries, to analyze the problems existing in the process of our commercial banks managing the credit card business, and to stretch forward to developing the countermeasures of it in our state-owned commercial banks. If all these solved, it will be great helpful for our state-owned commercial banks to strengthen their power of competition, and thereby promoting the development of our finance and the whole domestic economy. With the guidance of Mr. Zhigeng Zeng and the knowledge I've learnt, I will discuss the problems and the countermeasures of the credit card business in commercial banks from 5 parts combined with the experiences of the credit card industry in developed countries and the managing actualities of the credit card business in our state-owned commercial banks.1st Part: IntroductionIn this part, I will mainly introduce the characters of the credit card, review and analyze the development and actuality of the business in both China and foreign countries, and explain the background, challenges would come into being for the credit card business of the state-owned commercial banks when China enters into WTO.2nd Part: Distances Still Exist in the Credit Card Business Between Our State-owned Commercial Banks and those in Developed Countries. In this part, I compared large amount of data of the Credit Card Business in both China and foreign banks, which reflects the state-owned commercial banks still have the gaps as followed.1.products are comparatively draggled, and the scale of card issuingis small2.lots of bad debts are still existing, and the usage of the card is low3.consuming credit function is much more weaker4.capability of payoff is low, and the income structure is unreasonable5.pressure of risk management is great3rd Part: Analysis of the Internal Problems which Lead to gaps of the Credit Card Business in Our State-owned Commercial BanksIn this part, I will deeply analyze the reasons that caused...
