This thesis consists of four chapters. In the introduction are presented the background, status quo, significance of Enterprises Social Responsibility. In the rest part of the thesis, we concentrate on the concept, content and performance of ESR (Enterprise Social Responsibility). In the developed countries, research on ESR has been made for about a century. Especially, since the 1980s, the issue concerning ESR has been much highlighted. However, China did not start such research until around 1990. Now, under the circumstances of the socialist market economy, the research on ESR has much more practical significance in terms of enhance overall national strength and also to push forward the enterprise's own development. There are a variety of different views on the definition of ESR, which contain reasonability as well as limitation. This thesis will make a research on the concept of ESR from the definition of responsibility. We believe that ESR means a kind of management responsibilities of an enterprise for the progress of the whole society and for the protection of the social benefits. In terms of the content of social responsibility, there was a misunderstanding due to some historic reason. We believe that, from the perspective of the relationship between enterprise and society, the content of ESR includes: operating legally and paying tax according to policy; cherishing resources and protecting environment; emphasizing on security and treasuring life; helping the weak and serving the community; protecting benefits of consumers; setting up a good public profile and well dealing with the relationship with financial institution, other enterprises and stockholders. The final goal of this thesis is how to perform ESR. Research on the issue in this thesis is neither sufficient nor deep. After discussing the fundamental of performing ESR, we also discuss how ESR is affected by social reform and entrepreneurs during performing ESR.
