Changchun City Delimitation Study

With the centralization of population and economy, Changchun's urban function influences more and more area, so this has formed the metropolitan area composed of the central city and the peripheral areas connected closely with it. As a representative metropolitan area in the inland area, the study on the Chanchun metropolitan area delimitation has great significance on extending and using for reference, and it is also a good supplement to the studies on the metropolitan area delimitation in the littoral area. Under the condition of city globalization, regional integration needs the Changchun metropolitan area developed into an operative, spatial-integrated, and independent functional region with a complete boundary, and takes part in the competition with the global cities.This article is composed of three parts, and the first part is the theory basement. First, it expounds the concept of metropolitan area and the meanings of urbanization and such words. Second, this part summarizes the forming mechanism of metropolitan area. Third, it compares and analyses the achievements of overseas and domestic study of metropolitan area delimitation, and it defines the contents for reference. And last, based on the previous achievements, according Changchun's characteristics, the paper proposes the process of delimitation: first to study Changchun's developing degrees of integration of urban and rural area, then to define the bound of the metropolitan area with the synthetical method of delimitation, mainly with the method of the process research of integration of urban and rural area.The second part is the analysis of developing characteristics of Changchun's towns and countries. First, it does demonstration analysis on non-agriculturalization level and economic developing degree of thecentral city and the counties and cities around. Then, it ananyses the process of integration of urban and rural area around Changchun and the result is that only the towns and countries with high developing degree around Changchun are connected closely with the central city. Further, the paper analyses the characteristics of Changchun's integration of urban and rural area.The third part delimits the Changchun metropolitan area. First, it expounds the significance and characteristics and unit of delimitation of the Changchun metropolitan area. Second, it defines the boundary of the Central city. Third,it analyses the villages and towns around Changchun with the synthetical method of delimitation including the methods of the factors review? of administration, distance, and the methods of the reviews of ten-year population change, and the connection between the towns and cities as well as the method of direct observation, then it ascertains the peripheral villages and towns, so defines the boundary of the Changchun metropolitan area. Finally, the paper summarizes the methods of delimitation and index system to extend.
