Abstract/Summary:
1. Purpose and significance American famous business scholar Edgar.H.Schein points out in the corporate culture Survival Guide(Edgar H.Schein &Warren G.Bennis,1999),that there is now abundant evidence in different stages of enterprise development that reengineering of corporate culture is the force to make a difference to the performance of enterprises, and corporate culture is the major component of core competitive advantage. With globalization of world economy, especially after China's entry into WTO, companies are facing the competitions not only from local enterprises but also from multinational companies. Enhancing the core competitive advantage through building on corporate culture and concept is taken more and more seriously by people in China.How should we combine the strength of western and Chinese culture in joint ventures? And how should we build on the corporate culture with the Chinese characteristics? However, there is not much systematic research in this field. Therefore, there are two purposes in this research thesis: firstly, this thesis aims at exploring the solution to the problems existed in corporate culture of China Hewlett-Packard Company, based on the research result of international practice and the theories, the example of the evolution of corporate culture in China Hewlett-Packard Company, and in-depth analysis of its existing problem. Secondly, this thesis sheds some lights on building on corporate culture for the joint ventures and Chinese enterprises by analyzing the corporate culture of China Hewlett-Packard Company. China has more than ten years of research on corporate culture, and corporate culture is differently perceived and practiced due to the different starting line of enterprise system. The concept of corporate culture is not known quite well yet. Meanwhile, the research of corporate culture is only stated in universitybooks or discussed in high-end forums, and it is not widely spread and well developed. China's entry into WTO and the globalization of world economy urge the internationalization process of Chinese enterprises, the corporate culture composed of corporate value, behavior norm and shared assumption makes it possible for Chinese enterprises to involve in world economy. Thus, the development of corporate culture with Chinese characteristics plays a key role in the internationalization of Chinese enterprises. The author strives to provide practical solution to Chinese enterprises and joint ventures in establishing corporate cultures based on the research on the practice of Hewlett-Packard Company, the analysis of application of HP's corporate culture to China, the exploration of the existing problems and the insights of how to solve these problems.2. Basic Clue and logic structureThe framework of this thesis is developed as this: explore the theory- raise problem- analyze and solve the problem -reference to other enterprises. In this thesis, firstly, the author gives brief introduction to corporate culture and the connotation of corporate culture, then illustrates the creation and evolution of HP corporate culture, then analyzes the successful experience of HP's cross-cultural management, raises the existed problems in current corporate culture and explores the solution. Last but not least, the author concludes the significance of HP's experience to the establishment of corporate culture in Chinese enterprises. 3. Structure and main contentThere are four chapters in this thesisThe first chapter: the corporate culture and HP's corporate culture. This part discusses the start of corporate culture, the ingredients, structure, roles and the creation and evolution of HP corporate culture.The second chapter: HP's corporate culture. The chapter analyzes the cause for the conflict between western and Chinese management-the difference of cultures. Facing the conflict and difference, China Hewlett-Packard Company blends both western and Chinese culture, and establishes HP corporate culture with Chinese characteristics.
