Accession To The Wto And China's Textile And Garment Industry Development Research

This thesis makes systematic and profound study on the issue of China becoming the formal member of the WTO and the development of Chinese textiles and clothing industry.By combining theoretical and empirical analysis, this thesis first introduces the outcoming of the Agreement of Textiles and Clothing(ATC) and the main contents and features of the ATC. The Agreement of Textiles and Clothing came into being at the GATT Uruguay Round. The ultimate aim of the ATC is to bring the field of textiles and clothing into the regulatory range of the WTO, and even to realize the liberation of the trade.Chinese government makes some promises about textiles and garments on joining the WTO .which mainly include: reduction on tariff, economic system covering the investment system and price policy, and policies influencing commodity trade (which contains: promises regarding trading rights and import legislation), and promises on domestic policy affecting commodity trade.The beginning of the second chart of the thesis analyzes the present condition and to the problems of the textiles and clothing industry in China. And then explain the big influence on the export Chinese the textiles and clothing and the development of the textiles industries which comes with entering into the WTO. It will bring great benefit and huge challenge to the textiles trade and industry. We will face more intense competition in the world markets.Using a large number of data, this thesis makes international comparision on the competence of Chinese textiles industry from five aspects. We can conclude that our national textiles enjoy strong comparable advantage, cost advantage, price advantage and etc.It should be noticed that the domestic competitiveness of different textiles industries are developed lopsidedly and there still remains lots of problems between the industries and the competitiveness of enterprises in spite of thestrong international competitiveness of Chinese textiles industry from the comparative advantage.On the basis of summing up the fact of joining the WTO and the international experience and lessons to improve the domestic textiles and garments industry, the writer think that China should choice the right macro-policy and micro-measure. The macro-policy should formulate industry and trade policies of textiles industry in choosing macro-policy, which should make the government adapt to the trend of trade liberation and improve the industry competitiveness. As to the micro-measure,how to gain development in the trade liberation is basically determined by that whether the domestic textiles enterprises can choose reasonable and effective countermeasure to improve competitiveness and occupy more markets.
