Intermediary business is the inevitable product when a commercial bank develops into a certain stage, which is another propping business of modern commercial banks apart from assets business and liabilities business. With the rapid development of intermediary business in the western commercial banks since the 1 970s, it has taken up more and more portion in the income and even taken the place of the traditional income from interest. However, the intermediary business of China抯 commercial banks has the characteristics of initialization, spontaneity and low income; and the proportion of income stays at the same level as that for the western commercial banks in the 1 950s and I 960s. This thesis analyzes the reasons for the backwardness of the intermediary business in China抯 commercial banks, both from the commercial banks themselves and the external society, and discusses the practical importance of developing the intermediary business in China抯 commercial banks in line with the serious situations these banks encounter. Thus, the solutions are suggested to developing the intermediary business in China抯 commercial banks: they concern not only the banks themselves but also the society; and not only business operation but also participation of scientific and technological talents, social and economic development, setup of new financial system, and expansion of financial market. This is a systematic social project, which requires much effort from the commercial banks themselves.Xiao Zhiping (Finance & Banking)Directed by Xu Zhennan...
