| It抯 in 1956 that domestic coastal and water container transport came into existing, much earlier than the international container transportation in China. However, the domestic coastal and water container transportation develops more slowly than international container transportation which shows more vitality. Dunng the recent years, with the quick development of domestic coastal economy, the adjustment of our trade policy, the development of international transportation and the transport structure, more chances come to our domestic coastal and water container transportation. The shipping industry in China began to make more efforts to utilize the international standardized containers to open all- container liner services. Only after 4 years, the �transport network emerges. It contains the shipping liner services from the Dalian of north to Haikou of south and the shipping liner service connecting the coast and Changjiang River during which Shanghai is the centre. Anyhow, there are many defects and problems in our coastal container transportation. Firstly, the structure of the cargoes is too simple, mainly consists of cargoes of low value which results in the low earning. secondly,the imbalance of the cargo of different territory and season brings liners difficulties to adjust the vessel schedule and reposition empty equipments. as a result, it抯 ordinary that most lines majoring in the coastal container transportation are in red. thirdly, reasonable system of cargo canvassing still hasn抰 come into being. forthly, the service offered by the lines is not satsisfactory. the sechdules are not correct, the B safety of the cargo delivery cannot be guaranteed. fifthly, the equipments of the ports are somehow out-of-date and not standardized which cause the low- efficiency. sixthly,because of the stipulations of the customs, it抯 forbidden that the cargoes of domestic trade and foreign trade transhipped by the same vessel, loaded . As a member majoring in the coastal container transportation in COSCO, I present my own ideas and opinions about the coastal container transportation of China. In chapter 1, it summarizes the history and characteristics also some problems of the developing of coastal container transportation. What are the obstacles of it? Why it develops so slowly? In chapter 2, it analysis the coastal transport market from the following angles: I the enviroment and the situation, the forecast of the cargoes , the structures of the demand and supply,the competition factors And it tries to find the right position in the market and decide the right way of itself. In chapter 3, it points out the problems in the industry. After studying them, it suggests the positioning and the strategy of the industry in the next few years. In chapter 4, through the analysis of our own company , it analysis the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of coscon in the whole market. it also suggests coscon should go straight forward into the market and deepen the development of chinese coastal and water container transportation.
