Taiwan 's Policy Of Participating In East Asian Integration

Since the late 1980 s, globalization have swept around the world,regional economic integration organizations began to appear,after the European Union and North American Free Trade Zone, East Asian integration is one of the rising regional economic organizations. To promote the economic development and resist financial risks in recent years, east Asian countries have worked so hard to promote regional economic integration, such as "10 + 1" cooperation mechanism between ASEAN and China, and "10 + 3" cooperation mechanism between ASEAN, China, Japan and South Korea, as well as the establishment of China, Japan & Korea Free-trade Area, etc.As an important economy of East Asia, Taiwan has always been actively trying to participate in East Asia economic cooperation,but due to Taiwan’s political sensitivity which made it have always been marginalized in East Asia economic cooperation. To avoid being marginalized, Taiwan needs to participate in the regional cooperation of East Asia as soon as possible.There is a difference between democratic progressive party(DPP) and Kuomintang(KMT) on strategy of Taiwan’s participation in the East Asian economic integration. The DPP claims that Taiwan should "from world to mainland of China", and the KMT think that Taiwan should "from mainland of China to the world". Based on the failure of DPP’s "from world to mainland of China" and success of KMT’s policy, we can conclude that the only feasible way for Taiwan to participate in East Asian economic integration of East Asia is through mainland. Therefore, speeding up cross-strait economic integration can not only accelerate pace for Taiwan to participate in East Asian economic integration, also can promote the development of cross-strait relations and process of East Asian economic integration.
