The mass conception is the core and soul of Historical Materialism. The first time Marx and Engels scientifically demonstrated the significance and function of the masses in the historical development could be traced back to Historical Materialism created by them. Lenin developed Marx and Engels’ s mass conception into a greater level, which he applied, related theories in Marxism into Russian’s revolutionary practice. This innovative action had put forward Scientific Socialism theory into practical socialist movement. Lenin had sufficiently realized the importance of the masses in a nation’s revolution and development. His consciousness offered a solid ground for his later success in leading Russian October Revolution as well as in sequent accomplishment in Socialist Construction. It is valuable to deeply investigate and explore Lenin’s mass view in order to obtain a better comprehension of Party-masses relationship, strengthen the bond among party, the government, and the masses, as well as maintain the stability in the society. Furthermore, this exploration will have substantial implications for further promoting the great plan of the rejuvenation of China. This paper is divided into three chapters: The first chapter analyzes the theoretical origin of how Lenin’s mass view was formed. It begins with briefly introducing the definition and the development of the masses. Then it illustrates how the pioneer theories in Russian revolutionary democracy, together with the spread of Marxism in Russia have prepared a good theoretical basis for the establishment of Lenin’s mass view. The second chapter offers a comprehensive explanation of Lenin’s mass view. The explanation can be divided into three aspects: the masses are the essential power that the Party depends on; the masses are the main power of the socialist revolution and construction; the liberation of the masses and the Human’s Free and Comprehensive Development. The chapter further uses these three aspects to clarify how Lenin had put great importance on the masses, educating and encouraging them. The third chapter investigates the theoretical values of Lenin’s mass view from a critical perspective. Lenin’s mass view does not only enrich as well as improve Marxist mass view, and provide theoretical foundation for Mao Zedong’s mass viewpoint, but also offers leading guide for contemporary Chinese Communist Party’s theory and practice in power. Above all we can see that Lenin’s mass view shares both important historical influence and significant implications for future practice.
