"Need" is a word which is closely linked with the life of people. The exploration and research of people goes throughout the ancient and modern Chinese and foreign and has a long and long development history. The problem of need is the basic question about the activity of human history. Focus on the needs of the people and seek the practical way to people’s needs is the home to return to Marx and the purpose of life which is engaged in the practice. Need theory is an important problem of Marx’s attention. This article will conduct a comprehensive explanation to Marx’s theory of needs and will follow the time development rules to recreate the logical process of theory, aims to corroborate the subject status of people in the need. And return people to nature and realize the all-round development of human freedom.The text is made up of the introduction and three parts. The introduction part mainly introduced the thesis research background, research significance and purpose. Then it summarized the domestic and foreign scholars’ research on Marx’s need theory and combed the theory of the present situation. Finally the paper discussed the research method and the train of thought in the article. The first part of the paper detailed discusses the process of the formation and development of Marx’s theory of need. The second part of the thesis carried on a summary to the theory. On the one hand, this paper discussed the need theory connotation which is the need of human nature. On the other hand, this paper discussed the structure and hierarchy of the need theory. The third part of the paper is the key chapter of this article. It mainly told the story of the contemporary value of Marx’s theory of needs. On the one hand is the guidance of building a harmonious socialist society in contemporary China, on the other hand is the guidance of person’s need theory to realize person’s full scale development.
