An Analysis Of The Investigation And Research Work Of The Chinese Communist Party In The Early 1960s

Investigations and researches of The Communist Party of China (CPC) in the early1960s were conducted in all levels of the party and were massive in its scale. They helped redress the wrongdoings-known as ultra-Leftist errors-during the Great Leap Forward and people’s commune movement, and facilitated the formulation of national economic development principle-adjustment, consolidation, filling out and raising standards-and of series of working regulations. The experience obtained during investigations and researches are still meaningful to CPC, in areas of carrying on its excellent work style of linking theory and practice, keeping close relations with the masses, addressing new challenges and deepening the lofty socialist cause of Chinese characteristics. Based on plenty of historical documents and resources, the thesis systematically explained and analyzed the background, theoretical basis, main contents, features, the experience and the importance of the CPC investigations, and researches made in the early1960s. The paper comprises three sections.Section one is comprised of three historical backgrounds and one theoretical basis for the investigations and researches. Backgrounds included the exploration of socialist development, Sino-Soviet split and national economic difficulties while the theoretical basis were the investigation and research thoughts from Marx, Engels, Lenin and the first generation of CPC leadership.Section two details the history and major aspects of investigations and researches, during which, both top leadership and local cadres participated in. They researched thoroughly in areas of agriculture, industry and commerce and academia. The researches were characterized by its large scale, leader leading the way, being deep into grass roots, linking theory and practice, and so on and so forth.Section three explains the importance and experience of the investigations and researches. They were fundamental for the adjustment of national economic development principles, the formulation of various working regulations, and the improvement of relations between the Party and the masses. Investigations and researches provided enlightenment for future development. As an integral part of the Party work style construction, investigations and researches must have a targeted audience, go deep into the masses, be institutionalized and keep abreast of the times.
