China's legal aid system is specialized by a series of complementary laws and regulations. As it is specified by the law, the general portion of the legal aid requirement is implemented by the government in order to fulfill its obligation. The past 10 years have seen dramatic development in the relevant field with respect to facility, personnel financial support as well as the increase of legal awareness on part of the citizens.As a result of research, interview and study of the legal aid system, especially the roles of lawyers, the thesis comes up with certain latest findings and gives a overview of the social practice of legal aid in Beijing. It notes the lawyers'remarkable entheusiasm of the occupation and their thorough response to the legal aid needs resourcefully by means of lectures, hotlines, online consultation, specialized nongovernment organizations, aside of the compulsory assignments from the administrative concerned.However, despite of these development, there still exists many defects and difficulties. On one hand, the financial sponsor is always in short supply, while on the other hand, inequitable distribution poses a hurdle to the effective and efficient accomplishment of the allocated legal aid cases.Suggestions are made in the thesis in order to solve these problems. For the short term, administrative organ who is taking in charge of the legal aid system in the locality is expected to make effort for further comprehension of the contemporary legal profession, while the enhance of the financial support is equally important. In the long term, it's time for a reformation of the mechanism for Beijing as well as China's legal aid system and the establishment of the special group of legal aid lawyers.
