College United Front Work

The united front (UT) is one of three treasures of the party, it has played a decisive role in the process of Chinese new Democratic Revolution and socialist construction. The university is a intellectual collection place, gathering large numbers of professional and skilled talented persons. University UT work is an important domain of the whole party's UT work. In the new stage of century, with scientific development thoughts as the guidance, it has great theoretical and realistic significance to research and summarize the experience of the united front work in university, to further strengthen the united front, to widely arouse the intellectual's activity and creativity, and to display their functions in economical social development.Taking the university which the author works for, Taizhou University as a real sample, this article summarized some basic methods, positive experience and main problems in their UT field. It analyzed the new situation of the united front in the new era, and the necessity to strengthen it in the university. It also supposed strategies for the main problems existing.Zhejiang Taizhou University has a long history, it was firstly built in 1907. With a predecessor of Taizhou College approved by the State Council in 1978, it got upgraded into university at the beginning of this century. Therefore, it's a new university on base of old foundations. UT work in this university is a primary domain of the whole city UT work. The Party Committee of this university has long tradition to emphasize and develop the united front. Along with the development of the university, the front here has also obtained consolidated and strengthened.With UT work's implement, paths for democratic parties to join and discuss policies have been opened here, channels for democratic supervision have been dredged, functions of fraternities between parties and non-party members have been displayed. Democratic parties get their inside self-construction strengthened, while non-party members get gradual cultivation. Nationality, religion and overseas affairs come to be further emphasized, which makes positive devotion to consolidating and growing the most widely united front in Taizhou city. In the new century, scientific development thoughts bring higher requirements to university UT work. During their implemented process, series of effective measures have been taken by the university. First, implementing KEEP FOLLOWING AND OVERTAKING strategy with the universities staying in post-assessment phase, carrying forward the appeal of Secondary Transition, making best effort on gathering members.Second, combining with university inside management and system revolution (POSITIONS APPOINTED), appealing the activity of non-party intellectuals to join the university's democratic management, and assuring their rights to join and discuss policies making. Third, combining with further teaching revolution of post-assessment universities, making transitions to serve local public. Arousing non-party intellectuals, and promoting them to take part in social services.The article includes four parts:Part 1. Preface.
