Zhao Yuanren (1892 - 1982), the world-renowned linguist, but also quite accomplished composer, philosopher, logician and translator.Mr. Zhao devoted his whole life to the linguistic research and education and created out of many pioneering and influential works. He had made an outstanding contribution to modern Chinese linguistics and was known affectionately as "the father of Chinese Linguistics" by the Chinese language scholars. Meanwhile, Mr. Zhao is an outstanding musician, his musical achievements, but also can be called "China's pioneer of new music."In China, he combined the results of linguistics and the creation of artistic songs for the first time .but also he was one of the earliest Composers who introduced western composition techniques to the creation of artistic songs of china.His creation of modern art songs laid a good foundation for the development of our modern new music,made a great contribution to Chinese Art Songs and was called the pioneer in Art Songs in china's modern history .Xiaoyou Mei had called Zhao Yuanren " creating a new era to our music" when he evaluated his achievements in music.This thesis is from the main achievements of Zhao Yuanren .the background and the reforming ideas of music,the creative thinking and creative characteristics of Zhao Yuanren's art songs,the relationship between linguistics and music,the features of piano accompaniment of Zhao Yuanren's Vocal and the singing of Zhao Yuanren's art songs and so on five aspects to examine the style and features of Zhao Yuanren's art songs.
