Sichuan The Specification Yi Usage Study

It has been 30 years for the implementation of the canonical Yi language in Sichuan province since 1980. With the rapid socio-economic and cultural development, the situation of the canonical Yi language usage in the society of Yi area in Sichuan province has been changed significantly.Numerous of firsthand data about the use of the canonical Yi language in Sichuan province have been obtained by the field survey in Chengdu, Xichang and Xide in this article. The use of the canonical Yi language in various social fields is been analyzed in the paper by the method of documents, fieldwork and depth interviews supplemented by the questionnaire and the data analysis.This paper consists of seven parts. The introduction mainly explains the value and significance of the selection of the topic, then introduces the research methods and summarized the current research situation. Chapter one presents the social culture about Yi nationality and the use of languages in Yi society. Chapter two primarily reviews the creation process of the canonical Yi language and separately reviews the social and historical background of the creation process. The main goal in chapter three is to analyze the use of the canonical Yi language in all spheres of society in Sichuan province, which is carried out in following fields, education, media and judicial administration. The usage of the canonical Yi language in the above survey sites have been analyzed detailedly according to the statistical data of questionnaires and the situation in different fields were compared synchronically and periodically. Chapter four illuminates the internal and external factors which constrains and affects the usage and development of the canonical Yi language from the cultural environment, national language policy and the attitude of different social groups to the canonical Yi language. Chapter five discusses the usage and the development prospect of the canonical Yi language in Sichuan province and then predicts the prospect based on the analysis of the good and bad conditions affects the usage and development of the canonical Yi language. The end summarizes the main conclusions and insufficiency of this article.This paper attempts to make a systematical investigation concerning the usage of the canonical Yi language in Sichuan province and to describe the characteristic and the discipline of the canonical Yi language used in Sichuan province objectively. Understanding the feature of the usage of characters in multi-ethnic mixed community and the root cause of this situation and further deepen our understanding of the complexity of language use are beneficial to the formulation of minority languages' policy to the relevant state departments.
