Globalization of economy has necessitated cross-cultural communication. People from different cultural backgrounds communicate with each other more frequently than ever before. Being deeply influenced by their native culture, communicators often take into communication their own communicative modes, manners of thinking, cultural norms and linguistic knowledge, all of which will make them not to be able to correctly understand the intention of communication and the real thought they want to convey, therefore Pragmatic failure cannot be avoided. So the research into Pragmatic failures in cross-cultural communication becomes a hot issue at home and abroad. Many scholars have begun to contribute a great deal of efforts to analyze the reasons of pragmatic failure from different views.There are five parts in my paper; the first part is the introduction of the pragmatic failure, giving a brief review of achievement and defeats of researchers. The second part of the thesis research the Pragmatic failures phenomenon occurred between the Chinese who can speak the English language and the English native speakers from the view of the cognitive and adaptation theory. At the basis of the above researching, the author of this thesis want to analyze the reasons form another point of view which is from the theory of interculturality, in order to give it a overwhelming analyzing of the Pragmatic failure and find out the basic reason of Pragmatic failure. At the same time, it will be testified the theory of the interculturality is a theory that can be explanation the Pragmatic failure and also can give a practical guiding to the Pragmatic failure. The fourth part of the thesis will analyze the phenomenon of Pragmatic failure under the frame of the Philosophy of Language in order to find the way of combination between the Linguistics and Philosophy of Language. The last part is the conclusion.
