The folk paper-cutting in China is rich in profound cultural connotations. It has been considered as one of the most important representatives of the folk art forms in China. Traces of paper-cutting can be found in the local people's daily life such as the food they eat and the clothes they wear, and even in the rituals, customs and holidays they observe. Therefore, it can be concluded that the paper-cutting art can best reflect the working people's most unsophisticated language and thought. The Northern Shaanxi folk paper-cutting is one of the indispensable components of the existing local art forms on the land of Loess Plateau in that it reflects the regional cultural characteristics and ideological connotations. From the perspectives of its mold and aesthetics, the Northern Shaanxi folk paper-cutting has transformed from the original practicability to the combination of aesthetic beauty and practicability. The Northern Shaanxi folk paper-cutting has often been compared to a "mirror" because it not only embodies the national temperament traits, the enterprising spirit of modern times and the main current of thought, more importantly, it also reflects the soul of traditional Chinese thought in modern designs. This thesis, starting from the artistic forms, features, molds and connotations of the Northern Shaanxi folk paper-cutting, aims to seek the cultural connotations of the regional designs in Northern Shaanxi from the perspective of the local economic development. The analysis of the concise modeling language, the simple composition pictures, the rich sources of materials, the profound image culture and the imaginative creative thought of the Northern Shaanxi folk paper-cutting as well as the study on the implications of the Northern Shaanxi folk paper-cutting for the regional design leads to the founding that the regional designs in Northern Shaanxi have been increasingly combined with the local folk culture. The author of this thesis hopes that the influence that the Northern Shaanxi folk paper-cutting exerts upon the regional designs in Shaanxi can be set as a good example for the integration of local cultural traits into the nationwide regional designs so that the national visual language can be discovered in the designs on their way to internationalization and more new forms and cultural backgrounds of designs can be provided for the return of the ethnical origins of designs in China.
