In 1960s, the British director Peter Brook directed the drama Marat/ Sade,which was a milestone in the history of western drama and a blend of the most influential theatrical concepts– the ideas of Artaud's"cruel theatre"and the philosophy of Brecht's"alienation effect". To analyze the creative use and the blend of the aesthetic experience, this article was based on the Walter Benjamin's aesthetic point of view "aura" and "shock". And the relevant points of view from Peter Brook's works The Empty Space and The Shifting Point and the movie Marat / Sade which was filmed in 1967 are for a reference to observe. In a word, the article carries out in-depth study on the aesthetic pursuit of Peter Brook's directing in Marat / Sade, and aims at providing the contemporary Chinese theatre with useful inspiration.
