Years Old. Qianlong Towards The Pleasures Map "," Toward The Map "with The Interior Space Relationship And Its Implications

This thesis analyzes four paintings entitled "Emperor Qianlong Celebrating the Spring Festival" and four paintings entitled "Envoys from Vassal States and Foreign Countries Presenting Tributes to the Emperor" painted in the Period of Emperor Qianlong to determine the time they were painted. This thesis also points out the differences of contents and functions between these paintings.The thesis then draws a conclusion that the four paintings of "Emperor Qianlong Celebrating the Spring Festival" and two paintings of "Envoys from Vassal States and Foreign Countries Presenting Tributes to the Emperor" are highest level New Year paintings decorated in the clerestories in the royal halls including Hall of Mental Cultivation, Hall of Supreme Harmony and Hall of Spiritual Cultivation. Paintings of "Envoys from Vassal States and Foreign Countries Presenting Tributes to the Emperor" are descendants of the paintings of "Emperor Qianlong Celebrating the Spring Festival". They were painted because of the political event happened in the 25th year of Qianlong Period (1760). These paintings realized the emperor's idea of "adding houses and reducing people" and solved the problem of construction layout. Daylighting conditions of the clerestories also affected the appearances of these two kinds of paintings.On the basis of the historical background at late Qianlong Period, this thesis also interprets the Confucius idea of "Treating the young tenderly" revealed in these paintings as well as the concept of "being sage inside but king outside" represented by the relationship between the two types of paintings.The thesis concludes that the interpretation mode of "Image-Politics" is two simple. There are a lot of empty places between "Image" and "Politics", and a new mode of "Image-Space-Politics" is a new way on the understanding of the paintings.
