Roland Barthes Text Theory And Impact Studies

Both of the dissemination and study of Roland Barthes (1915-1980)'s text theories in China and the development of Chinese contemporary vanguard literature have experienced a continuously changing process. Several of Barthes's works such as Zero Writing, Pleasure of the Text played a key role in the literary creation and criticism, since they tally with Chinese local culture environment, especially for the vanguard of literature from a theoretical basis.This paper attempts to sort out the theoretical background of the emergency of Roland Barthes's text theories, dig out the essence of such theory, and then examine its theoretical research in China, and finally discuss the significance on the creation and criticism of literature.The first chapter discusses the theoretical background of the formation of Barthes's text theories. Jacques Derrida played a important role during the process of the transformation of such theory, which helped to change structuralism into back structuralism. Of course, considering Barthes's own contradictions and uncertainties, the transformation is inevitable.Chapterâ…¡discusses the essence of Barthes's text theories, focusing on analyzing several of his representative post-structuralism works such as "S/Z", "From work to text", "Love's Note" and " pleasure of the text". Then it summarizes its connotation of text theories, such as the works and texts, zero writing, clip-style reading, the pleasure of the text and so on.The third chapter mainly studies the adaptability of Barthes's text theories to Chinese environment.1980s was a new period to Chinese literature, and there were increasing voices calling for pure literature. Barthes's text theories to some extent tally with these voices. While China's writers are changing their concept on world literature, western literary theory has been introduced in China by translation. Barthes's text theories were introduced to China during this period.Chapterâ…£discusses the main impacts of Barthes's text theories on Chinese contemporary pioneer literature text. This paper aims to explore the significance and the limitations of such theories to vanguard literature, and figure out the the reason for the rise and decline of Chinese vanguard literature.
