Today,art has entered and affected every corner of our life. Beauty is everywhere, so if a person ignores it or fails to enjoy it by means of aesthetic appreciation, then his or her spiritual development will be restricted and stunted. And that is the reason why our nation has started aesthetic education and applied it into our compulsory education. As for the college students who are gradually forming their own view of life and value, how to find their own artistic truth in the complicated and assorted artistic phenomena and also how to nurture their aesthetic appreciation ability have become an issue worthy of discussion and analysis.Current domestic research on college aesthetic education is weak at exploring approaches to effectively provide aesthetic education for college students as well as motivating their creativity. So this paper aims at analyzing the problems and phenomena in college aesthetics education from the hermeneutic perspective and figuring out new ideas in aesthetics education, in the hope of affording the theoretical basis for improving our college students'aesthetic appreciation.As for the methodology, this paper employs the theories of Visual Domain combination, Effectual History and Reader-centered Theory in Hermeneutics,and also uses content-analysis methodology to devise questionnaires, involving 300 ones (294 valid ones) with polled students in Jinan and Weifang of Shandong province and three other places of Chongqing city. This study analyzes the misunderstanding and causes in our aesthetic education for college students and as well forwards some recommendations for enhancing the aesthetic appreciation for our college students.The misunderstanding in aesthetics education reflected in the questionnaires are listed as the follows::1. the contradiction between the cognitive demands for aesthetic appreciation for youngsters and the current college aesthetic education;2. the formulated comprehending method can not be accepted by today's students who are seeking personalized aesthetic appreciation;3. there exists mistakes in the aesthetic education. For on thing, lecture-giving classes can no longer cater for college students'aesthetic appreciation initiative. For another, there is an emotional trend that our college students are no longer contented with the aesthetic education which is transmitted by means of traditional media.;4. the content in college aesthetic education also has misunderstanding:(1)only refined aesthetic education are afforded and this cannot meet the needs of the diversity of college students'aesthetic cognition.(2)the contents lectured in the class are outdated concerning the aesthetic appreciation demand.The paper adopts the theories in contemporary hermeneutics to explore the main reasons for the misunderstanding in the traditional aesthetic education. It summarizes that:traditional aesthetic education is grounded on the aesthetic education from the old hermeneutics perspective and it ignores the initiatives of the college students who serve as interpreters. Therefore, in today's aesthetic education, it is of greater importance to be guided by the contemporary hermeneutics headed by George Gadamer.The final part of this study forwards solution to the misunderstanding in the old aesthetic education: the contemporary hermeneutics headed by George Gadamer can serve as a guideline in our aesthetics education in colleges. In the aesthetic education in colleges,we need to enhance the functions of understanding ability in aesthetic education, to encourage individual development, to introduce modern educational ideas and methods, to fully display students'initiative, to transform the passive reading to creative reading so as to improve students'creativity. In terms of aesthetic content, modern literature needs to be introduced so as to make the college aesthetics education keep abreast with the professional aesthetic education. At the same time, modern media are expected to be employed. All these are conducive to students'interests'enhancement, providing diverse aesthetic appreciation approaches and further improve students'aesthetic cognitive ability. In this way, new concepts in bettering aesthetic education in colleges can be put forward, which is fairly meaningful to improving the quality of our college aesthetic education.
