After the defeat of the Sino-Japanese War in 1895, many advanced Chinese people began to rethink the way to change the nation. To reformers, improving the Chinese women's wisdom could not be neglected. Since then, the enlightenment of the women, half of the nation, had become an important subject, which was first mentioned in the agenda of history. In addition to male advocates, a number of educated women devoted themselves into women's liberation movement, and the "women citizens" and "the mother of National" had become the famous slogan in the progress of the times. From many newspapers founded in the end of the 19th century or the early 20th century, we can find that women-related issues occupied a considerable space. It is a unique landscape in Chinese gender history.in 1907, Xingsu Pictorial was beginning publication in Tianjin where different Chinese and foreign factors were mixed into one mass. Through the pictorial's paintings we can find many social life fragments and the prospects in the end of the Qing Dynasty. By these visual materials, we get some way to have a limited view of that time. In the pictorial drawings illustrating women images account for a large proportion. In addition to sympathy to the Chinese traditional women, journalists seemed to have a large prejudice to them. For instance, women often represented uneducated and fetishistic figures. In fact, this conflict, continually appearing in the pictorial, was one of the characters of traditional Chinese culture. The re-definition on the social roles of women, in fact, was a reflection of the congenital advantage of modern Chinese intellectuals' language power. Although, journalists wined a new right of reconstruction gender system, the voice of sympathy for women and expectation to social progress declared a positive historical significance.
