Belief is an important part that deeply rooted in human spiritual life. As modernity society comes, belief has become a great question that everyone faces and must think about. And there even appears the crisis of belief. After opium war, Chinese encountered the belief problems of modern society, which influences our lives till now. This essay counters on the problem of belief which is faced by Chinese people in present age, proceeds from the peculiarity of Chinese traditional belief, together with the combination of different thoughts about beliefs by several modern thinkers, especially through the deep study of Cai Yuanpei's thought of " aesthetics education substituting for religion" from the way of belief, the essay raises that aesthetics education will bring into a train of thought of rebuilding the belief system, and then raises the importance of aesthetics education on the rebuilding of belief of Chinese people and its social condition.The first chapter, on fully analysing the problem of belief Chinese people face and different ways of solving the problems, analyses the theoretical and realistic meaning of Cai Yuanpei's thought of "aesthetics education substitute religion" in solving belief problems, and raises the possibility of aesthetics education on the rebuilding of belief. I think that "aesthetics education substituting religion" is a train of thought which is based on the requirement during the transformation into a modern society of Chinese culture, so it has very important value on answering the Chinese belief problem. And the aesthetics education is a possible way of solving the Chinese belief problem at present.The second chapter, using the researches on the function of aesthetic education done by the sino-scholars since Cai Yuanpei, arguments the importance and function of art in aesthetic education, raises that aesthetic education may have four kinds of uses in the rebuilding of belief of Chinese people: fortifying beliefs of life, shaping perfect personality, building the sense of identification and belonging, caring the ultimate value of lives. This makes the first preparation for the further research on the social condition for the rebuilding of belief.The third chapter, based on the reaches above, further develops the aesthetics thoughts of Cai Yuanpei in the perspective of social practices. The essay points out that the cultivation of feelings is the fundamental reason that aesthetics takes effects in belief reconstruction. The essay further considers the social necessities that aesthetics education needs to take effects, mainly focuses in two areas, which are the orientation and development of aesthetics education in modern education system, and the construction of social communities.The essay, which is researched under the method of Marxism historical materialism, mainly focuses on the specialty of the reconstruction of Chinese beliefs, discusses the thought and possibilitiesof rebuilding beliefs with aesthetics with the consideration of the newdevelopment of aesthetics and the specialties of Chinese traditionalculture.
