| This thesis aims at a cognitive analysis of news discourse, guided by Salience approach, especially based on three principles of salience- profile and base, trajectory and landmark, analyzed salience. Six news reports are as the objects in this thesis. The six news reports are divided into three pairs, each of which reports the same event and are compared with each other. Different parts of these news--- headline, lead and body, are mainly analyzed from the verbal structure and syntax. The same event which is reported by different journalists has different influences to readers, so that the different thoughts come out. Meanwhile, with salience theory, reader can point out the hidden message. With this method, people can analyze how to become the unequal relationship in our society artificially. This thesis also presents that how the ideology is embodied by the reporters. In this way, readers can clearly learn about the aim and trend as soon as possible. By the salience theory, the ideology behind news show out in a cognitive method. It is also a new idea that salience theory is connected with news discourse analysis. |
