| TITLEThe Meaning of Migration Writing in the Postmodernist Context --Comparative Interpretations between Raymond Federman and Maxine Hong KingstonCONTENTSThis paper comparatively reviews the works of two representatives--Raymond Federman and Maxine Hong Kingston among American migration writers,in order to discuss the meaning of writing on writers and their social groups,on their culture identities and living conditions in the postmodernist context. How to treat with one's traditional culture, how to enter the American society in a successful way,Raymond Federman and Maxine Hong Kingston answered with their American stories as an Asian-American woman and a European white man respectively. Both of them finally find solutions through their writing activities and make their contributions in striving for equal discourse rights and higher social status for their races.Maxine Hong Kingston makes the clue by describing how the Chinese-American men and women fight for their equal rights in the forms of keeping silence and speaking out loudly in the past centuries and she offers a general interpretation of the inner warrior spirit among the Chinese-American migrations.Kingston tries to construct a new migration culture which contains both the good and useful parts in Chinese traditions and American ones, but the fundamental way to solve the problem is based on the full developments of the Chinese-American migration group as a whole.Raymond Federman establishes a new relationship between fictional discourse and the Reality which helps the mass with building a right attitude towards the sense of Reality and encourages readers to participate in Reality and to create new meanings of Reality. The same goals of Raymond Federman and Maxine Hong Kingston as migration writers in a postmodernist context are:depending on the immense discourse power of changing people's minds and thoughts in order to establish a new and more reasonable discourse system for recognizing Reality and reconstruct the discourse instead of the old one.In addition, this paper probes into the special techniques and writing skills of the two writers, such as repetition, vague narration, putting different elements together in the same text, uncertain word games and so on for interpreting what kind of forms the writers use and how these forms work on constructing abundant culture connotations like historical traditions and living conditions of migrations from Asia and Europe. |
