Haining Shadow Play, Past And Present

The purpose of this paper is to study the history and current situation of Zhejiang Haining shadow play by means of literature collection and field investigation, coupled with the knowledge of sociology and anthropology. After analyzing the modeling, singing and performing characteristics of Haining shadow play, it comes to the conclusion that it is one of the oldest Chinese shadow play, which is of course of important historical significance. Therefore we need to do the further protection and development of Haining shadow. It should not just rely on the Government, but launch the strength of the whole society; should not merely protect the existing shadow players, but help to develop a new generation of players and audience, and also make reform to help shadow meet the development of the times.
