With the development of the College English Teaching,people are paying increasingly more attention to the ability of the language application and language communication,and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education also points in " The Basic Requirements for English Teaching Courses about Higher Education "(for trial implementation) that the aim of College English Teaching is to cultivate the ability of the language use in practice, highlighting the relevance of teaching content with practice.And writing is one of the most important ways of them,which can be used in most of the daily life and business activities.Overcoming the difficulties in writing ability helps to improve the college students writing ability.In the course of improving the students language learning ability,vocabulary plays a very important roles.No matter how native a person's pronunciation is,language communication is still difficult to achieve without the right words to express all kinds of meaning.Verbs are the keys of English acquisition with various kinds,changeable meanings,complex usage,and diverse tenses,which is difficult to learn and grasp.Hence,paying more attention to the errors about the common verb usage,learning the laws and finding out the reasons about errors contributes to the students' writing ability.Error Analysis,one of the important linguistics of a second language acquisition,is based on the interlanguage theory.Interlanguage Theory tells us that we should not attach importance to mother tongue interference but focus only on the comparison target with language system of the mother tongue,and put emphasis on the use of the learners' systematic language study.S.P.Corder,a British linguist divided Language Learners' mistakes into two kinds:errors and lapsus.Lapsus results from nervousness or negligence,which is temporary and does not show the ability to speak the language,while errors refers to the regulate errors which shows the ability of his target language.There are a large number of reasons for it:the negative mothertongue transfer,negative transfer of target language knowledge,negative transfer of cultural factors,the impact of learning strategies and communication strategies,and environmental impact on study in the process of second language acquisition.We should learn the error sources, and reveal the learners' interlanguage system,so that we can learn more about the process and the law of second language acquisition.This paper will focus on analyzing the errors on common verb usage in English writing by using Error Analysis theory,explore the causes of the errors, and the strategies and find measures to reduce the errors.The English level of the college students,who have the basic foundation of the English language,and a certain amount of English vocabulary and basic grammar but at the same time they don't reach a certain depth and breadth of practical application in English,which is between the university students and high school students.They not only have the same errors with the other students but also have the uniqueness of their own errors.The main contents of this thesis:Chapter One mainly deals with the verb usage,the importance of error analysis,research status and the reasons for selecting this topic as well. Chapter Two briefly introduces some relative theories definitions about Comparative Analysis, such as Interlingual Theory,and Theory of Error Analysis.Chapter Three deals with the research on the error analysis about the common verbs in College English Writing.First,Select the English students who have entered the college for a year in three colleges to do the research. Then,collect and analyze language materials,some of which are selected from the students daily homework,and some of which are selected from the recent special investigation.With the help of the Chinese Learner English Corpus,Chapter Four will analyze the language materials,sum up the common types of error in the students writing,and Chapter Five will find out the reasons for these errors.Chapter Six discusses the significance of Error Analysis and suggestions about the teaching strategies in the future. |
