| The legend of Monalun is one of the Mongolian famous historical legends. The thesis concentrates on various variants, inheritance track, oral history and historical source of the legend of Monalun.The thesis consists of three chapters, including introduction, body and conclusion. Introduction illustrates the object and the significance of the study with a detailed introduction of current studies of the legend of Monalun. The main body consists of three chapters: the structure of the legend of Monalun and characteristic of its oral version, variants and inheritance of the legend of Monalun and the social and historical sources of the legend of Monalun.The structure of the content of the legend and the characteristics of its oral version are discussed deeply in the first chapter. In the writer's opinion, the legend is not only composed of two other legends, but also provides important information about three tribe battles in the history. The thesis also points out that the legend displays a strong folk oral literary style and the northern nationalities' legends have deep influences on the way of thinking of the legend.The variants and the track of inheritance of the legend are illustrated in the second chapter. By comparing the variants from various sources, the thesis puts forward that whole variants of the legend can be classified into two big systems: the History of Yuan Dynasty and the Collection of History.The social and historical background revealed in the legend is studied in the third chapter. The thesis expounds that the legend not only reflects the fact that the marriage had a bridging effect on the construction of the tribes in the Mogolian society at that time, but also embodies many other social and economic background of the time. Last, the thesis proposes that the legend is the true historical portrayal of battles for territory between three tribes. |
