Isaac Babel is a well-known Soviet Jewish writer. His identity which is special and complicated leads to great confusion during his lifetime. Therefore, the essay tries to discuss Babel's complicated national cultural identity and its construction, rheology and coordination in the process of revolution and to analyse the artistic features of his works on the basis of researching the writer's identity from an angle of the modern identity theory.Babel has multiple identities. He was born into a Jewish family and taught by Jewish education,so he had great passion for Jewish and Jewish culture——he is a Jewish;he looked for Bolshevik's revolution, admitted Bolshevik and took actions to join into the revolution——he is a "loyal Bolshevik";he.was learned, sought freedom of idea and had great patriotism and national awareness——he is a good intellectual in Soviet.Babel's multiple identities was shown completely in the process of revolution. He longed for revolution but was scared of it;he supported revolution but criticized it;he considered revolution as saviour and monsters. This contradiction had just proved the rheology of his multiple identities. It was also the result that his multiple identities identified and coordinated with each other.Babel's works have a great artistic charm.Under the influnce of the writer's multiple identities, his works have double functions including literature and narration. The works not only break out grand official single narration but also show us the true history. The works create animated "human" and play a duet including canticle and dirge. The writer's confusion between civilization and savagery makes his works cause an amazing aesthetic effect.
