According to the revealment of Luxun's duplex roles in "The story of new version"-poet and warrior,this paper classifies the themes of eight stories in the album into sentiment and utilitarian and then observes their development trend of creation diachronically.Sentiment and utilitarian have different creative purposes.Sentiment tends to focus on human's aesthetic experience;utilitarian concerns more on practical utilitarian purposes. Marginal life state,rich life experience and meditation on social life affect the expression of the themes of sentiment in "The story of new version";social thoughts' fetter and Luxun's personal demeanor influence that of the other.According the theory above,this article believe the development of the themes of the tales can be divided into four phases.The first phrase's theme is sentiment,which consist of "Butian","Benyue" and "Zhujian";the second phrase's theme is utilitarianism,which consist of "Feigong" and "Lishui";the third phrase juxtapose the two themes—utilitarianism and sentiment,which consist of "Caiwei" and "Chuguan";"Qisi" handles the conflict mandatorily which is the result of the split of sentiment and utilitarianism in the form of drama.The thematic change of "The story of new version" clearly displays he plight that Luxun has to face during his later literary creation.For one hand,he has to fulfill his warrior's duty in he form of literary creation;for the other,he needs to convers his life experience through literary creation.The two forces from different directions tangle and split inside Luxun's heart thus exhaust him.However,Lu Xun,after all,has a remarkable creativity,when he was squeezed into a very narrow reality space,he is still through the form of other aspects, showing an astonishing artistic creativity:"The story of new version" charming art the form of art to break through all barriers of attitude to pull off,as the late Lu career erected a monument of art.
