The empresses and imperial concubines of the Tang Dynasty played a vital role in the Tang and even the ancient Chinese history. Previously, researches have been done on the empresses and imperial concubines of the Tang Dynasty. However, no comprehensive and accurate statistics has been done on the empresses and imperial concubines of the Tang Dynasty in its three hundred years, and usually focused on the women's life history and the political system history, but rarely linked to the social development and change. Therefore, the thesis briefly described the system of the empresses and imperial concubines in the Tang Dynasty, ascertained the personnel structure, and researched their regional, family, race, relatives, children, the changes of their status one by one. Then, based on these comparisons between the early and late Tang Dynasty, it analyzed and demonstrated the political and social changes in the Tang Dynasty. Such as the change in the family of empresses and imperial concubines between the early and late Tang Dynasty: many of them, born in aristocracy in the early Tang Dynasty, had strong awareness of political participation and strong political strength, while most of them, born in the ordinary landlord in the late of Tang Dynasty, have relatively weak political forces. It means that entering the Tang Dynasty, aristocracy continued to decline, the estate of the ordinary landlord were to expand. The study of all the empresses and imperial concubines in Tang Dynasty shows the influences on the politic and the changes of social structure, and corroborates that Three hundred years of the Tang Dynasty is a period of great change in Chinese history: the Tang Dynasty succeed the clique system in the Wei-Jin Dynasties in its early stage, and opened the bureaucratic politics in and after the Song Dynasty in its late stage.
