Yuxi And The Comparative Study Of Du Mu's Poem

Liu Yuxi and Du Mu are two distinguished poets in the late Tang Dynasty, and they are also poets with distinctive personality. There are a lot of people who has been doing research on the two famous poets, and they have made a lot of achievements. But until present, a comparative study is still rare. People always pay much attention to the poets who have the considerable capacity or the similar situation or good relations. Especially, more research is about the hot poets, whom we call together for a long time, such as "Li Du", "Wang Meng", "Yuan Bai", "Liu Liu", however, the comparative study about Liu Yuxi and Du Mu, are neglected by people for long. In fact, there are much similar or same places on Liu Yuxi and Du Mu 's poetry. The comparative study about Liu Yuxi and Du Mu may help us know more about the two poet's personality, their ideas and their great achievements. And all of this will be helpful to the two poets' further study.This paper will refers to three aspects. Chapter 1,I will have more comparative analysis about the contents of the two famous poets' poetry. Liu Yuxi and Du Mu all have strong enterprising spirit, the most obvious characteristics of the content of their poetry is that they have more multidimensional description about the era. Moreover, they express their feelings from many aspects. Liu Yuxi and Du Mu's poetry includes various aspects. In this chapter, I will have specific analysis from their Yong epic poetry, political poetry and poems as responses. Liu Yuxi and Du Mu were all famous for their Yong epic creation, and their Yong epic is not only large in number, but also has greater innovation in the ideological and artistic value, and it makes Yong epic occurred earlier in the history reach to the period of its prosperity in late Tang Dynasty. Liu Yuxi and Du Mu's Yong epic has some different points, but also have many similarities, for example, their deep sigh, good knowledge about the history, their sharp criticism to the reality and so on. Liu Yuxi and Du Mu all have good talents, and they all hope to do something great, but the cruel reality always makes it hard to realize their dream. Therefore, they exposed and criticized the reality by the political poetry. Liu Yuxi and Du Mu are warm and sincere to people, therefore, they creative a lot of poets, which contain a lot of contents, such as extolling good family relations and friendship, encouraging or supporting comrades and understanding the sentiment of life.Chapter 2 will focus on analyzing the style of Liu Yuxi and Du Mu's poetry. Although they have colorful style of poetry, Overall, "Xiong qi Hao Jian" is Liu Yuxi's dominant style, and " Xiong Zi Ying Fa" is Du Mu's main style, of which have strong comparability. This chapter mainly comparatives their dominant style from the lyrical style, poetic language, and realm of poetry. Moreover, I will have a deep level analysis about the formation reasons of the lyrical style, in order to explore the the tremendous impact of poet's temperament, experience and talent on their poetry.In chapter 3, from the scattered fragments of Liu Yuxi and Dumu's various books and articles, we have explored their literary ideas and creative thoughts. In this chapter, from their views of literary status and function, the relationship between literary content and form and the pursuits of literature, we can see that both Du Mu and Liu Yuxi judge the literary works by the traditional principle of the Confucian, they stressed that literary works should give priority to ideological content, supplemented by decorations, they opposed exaggerated words , stressed that the literary works should serve the society, they also advocated exploration and innovation in literary creation.Comparing three aspects, we can see that the poetry of Liu Yuxi and Du Mu comes from and reflects their times, but beyond their times. They consciously inherit the spirit of Confucian and comply with the society, their poetry reflects the reality and express their vision. Although affected by the depressible society, their poetry reflects heroism and frankness, which is different from the characteristics of their times. They devoted their lives to politics, but they have many unique understanding and insight in literature. Of course, because of individual differences, their poetry also have many differences. In a word, Liu Yuxi is a poetic politician, however, Du Mu is a political poet.
