Zhang Hu Poetic Art Style Study

ZhangHu was a famous reclusive poet between middle and late Tang Dynasty. He left more than 500 poems to later generations during his whole lifetime. However, for one reason or another, there haven't been many studies on Zhang Hu and his poetic works. Besides, current studies usually focus on his palace poems and temple works, which is far from enough. This thesis makes a comparatively comprehensive analysis on the styles of his poems. To begin with, the thesis gives out an introduction of Zhang Hu's personal life and a brief description about his poetic creations. Then, the thesis makes a detailed analysis of his poems of various themes, such as palace poems, landscape and temple poems, frontier poems, etc. Finally, the thesis studies the formation of Zhang Hu's literature thoughts, which influence his poetic creations and his poetic styles greatly; besides, the thesis compares Zhang Hu's styles of poems with those of late Tang Dynasty, From the latitudinal contrast, elaborates Zhang Hu's original style; From the longitudinal analysis, makes clear the transformation of style . thus showing the uniqueness of his styles.The thesis is composed with one introduction and four chapters.In the introduction , Zhang Hu's personal life is described And the research of Zhang Hu is introduced. Zhang Hu is a talent poet, his lifetime experices provided him a lot of elements to put into poems, currents studies on Zhang Hu have achieved great progress,but these studies is still isolated and plane, the aspects of the formation of Zhang Hu's style and the siutation of the poetry world of that time have not been studied well.In the first chapter, palace poems style is analysed, palace poem is one of the most important part of Zhang Hu's poems. Such as "chang meng yuang" "tui gong ren" etc. using delicate and fine touch to describe the feeling of maids of honour, the best part of Zhang Hu's palace poems is the part of singing kaiyuan and tianbao's incidents, although Zhang Hu was a reclusive poet, but he could discribe the incidents of palace very perceptive and accurate, palace poems are brief in languages but abundant in meaning. So these poems spreaded abroad not only on that time but also on the later ages.In the second chapter, focus on the poems of landscape and temple poems, In this part of his poems, everything including mountain ,water ,temple etc. can be described. Zhang Hu almost put everything into his writing, such as tower, a storied building, temple, historic site, etc. analysing his pomes, the styles differs ,there are some poems takes the style of peace and quiet, on the contray ,others takes the style of wideness and vastness. Zhang Hu's temple poem, also disclosed faintly that he wanted to Become a buddhist. "friendly topic happiest extent" the creation technique always enjoys the commendation.The third chapter is focoused on the frontier poems. summarizing the characters of firm, unconstrained style of Sheng Tang. The frontier poems pay more attention to the scenery of fronter and the will of soldiers, poems make a clear expression of deep love for the nation that makes reader excited. Pi Rixiu praise Zhang Hu's style as "the follow of Jian an ", namely refers to this kind of poetic style probably. Through the comparing with the poem of Wang wei, we could tell the original of Zhang Hu's frontier poems.And the last chapter ,the variation of Zhang Hu's arts style is analysed . studying the formation of Zhang Hu's literature thoughts, which influence his poetic creations and his poetic styles greatly; besides, the thesis compares Zhang Hu's styles of poems with those poets of late Tang Dynasty, thus showing the uniqueness of his styles. After all, part of Zhang hu's poems takes on the characters of extent and vast lanscape, that different from the Middle and late Tang Dynasty, So that is ont easy for him follow the styles of Jian an or Sheng Tang times.Due to the limitation of this thesis, many questions cannot be studied thoroughly. Further researches need to be done on Zhang Hu and his poetic works.
