Liangzhu Culture Jade Cong Unearthed

Jade Cong plays an important role in the jade articles from the Neolithic Age. The unearthed Jade Cong from the Liangzhu Culture got most developed, and a large quantity. Its neat pattern and elaborate designs reflect the technologic tiptop of jade execution during the Neolithic of south China. As the discovery and the study of archaeology are getting to further accumulate, Jade Cong shows an ascending tendency both in quantity and variety. The academic research on Jade Cong is continually developing in depth, i.e. the study of simply corresponding archaeological information to the historical documents has started to turn into a multiple disciplines study of taxonomy, gender archaeology, taphonomy, typology and microwearing study integrating with anthropology, ethnoarchaeology, cognitive archaeology and the others.At present, a comprehensive research on the regional level about unearthed Jade Cong of the Neolithic is comparatively inadequate. In addition, as more and more Jade Cong have been discovered, some new interpretations about the definition, function, usage and meaning of Jade Cong have been proposed. Based upon the above-mentioned reason, this paper intends to carry out a systematic research on Jade Cong of Liangzhu Culture, meanwhile, by using archaeological typology, review and seriate by stages the Jade Cong of Liangzhu by integrating with gender archaeology, taphonomy and anthropology, ethnoarchaeology, cognitive archaeology and the others. In addition, I also try to employ the philology methods to summarize and analyze the connotation, ritual usage, and symbolic significance, as well as other cultural aspects of Jade Cong, then try to systematically expound the Jade Cong-culture from Liangzhu Culture unearthed along downstream of the Yangtse River of the Neolithic.
