Questions In "treatise On The" Su Tung Yi, "

As the two important works in late Eastern Han Dynasty,"Qianfulun(潜夫论)"and "Fengsutongyi(风俗通义)" are of great language material and history material value to the language study in Eastern Han and Middle Ancient Times.The study on the interrogative sentences in the two works has certain significances to the brief description of it in Middle Ancient Times,even the development history of interrogative sentences.Though the interrogative sentence study has been made abundant achievements,some subjects,such as rhetorical question sentence, especially the study on it of Ancient Times,still deserves our further research.By investigating the interrogative sentences in both "Qianfulun(潜夫论)"(186 sentences included)and "Fengsutongyi(风俗通义)"(198 sentences included:151 in main text,47 in lost article),we find following characteristics of the two books:First,the use of interrogative pronouns "xi(奚)" "wu(乌)" "he(曷)" "wu(恶)"declined obviously,"he(何)" "shu(孰)" "shui(谁)" "an(安)"continued to use,"he deng(何等)" "he ren(何人)" "he wu(何物)" "ji suo(几所)" and other newborn phrases appeared;Second,compared with other Eastern Han works,"Qianfulun(潜夫论)"and "Fengsutongyi (风俗通义)"are both conservative and hysteresis on alternative question sentences use,such as the newborn form——"wei(为)","dang(当)" types have not emerged.Third,on positive-and-negative question sentences use,except the form of "NP-neg",there is the newborn form "ning…bu(宁……不?)"in "Fengsutongyi(风俗通义)"as well.Fourth,the quantities of rhetorical question sentence in the two books are obviously more than the inquiry sentences,especially the specially-pointed rhetorical question sentences.Fifth,the interrogative sentence with "qi(岂)"emerged a tone of inquiry use.Specially-pointed inquiry sentence and Specially-pointed rhetorical questions sentence both belong to specially-pointed interrogative sentence,but they have certain differences in the structural style,answer,the semantics as well as the transformal way.The difference between rhetorical question sentence and inquiry sentence with "qi(岂)"is the result of doubt fluctuating.
