The Structure Approach(SA)and the Functional Approach(FA) are two different approaches in English teaching. SA trends to teach language forms and structures. It can make students remember the structures automatically or half-automatically by masses of reduplicate drills. But FA trend to teach language conmmunications. It puts the focus on buiding the abilities of communications. It goes to the teaching aims through commmunications in the class. Either of the two approaches has their own advantages and disadvantages. More and more combinational forms appeared in the English classes in our cuntry. And the results are excellent. In the primary schools the use of combination and complementarity can fit the features and aqusitions very well. What I am doing is to explore the combination of SA and FA and find the teaching strategies in the use.In my reseach I found that the instructional objectives of the combination of SA and FA are giving attention to language knowledge and language skills both, cultivating the abilities of communication, developing ideation and inspiring helpful sensibilities. There are four kinds of formations in the process of the combination. They are SA appears before FA, FA appears before SA, SA and FA appear synchronously, SA and FA appear circularly. The teaching strategies of the combination are complex and changeful. They will change according to teaching contents, students'ages, teaching styles and teacher'working ages.
