A Breakthrough

Based on the cultural background in the 1980s and 1990s, this thesis viewed Wang's creativity from the aspect of individual existence, and tried to explain Wang's intention to break through the history and the world in reality ruled by the existing discourse. Wang's opened narration offered the right that everything existed in life can be talked about.The contemporary literature in China has been in a tradition of highly systematization and singleness, and the practical function of arts has been disciplined as a special tool for political propaganda by the mainstream ideology. No matter the subjective spirit and the aesthetic ideal of writers, or the character image and spirit direction expressed by works, it has been strictly in specification and restriction. Facing the flat spiritual reality of extremely contained human nature and the no freedom mind, the main content of Wang Xiaobo's transcendence of era culture are to revolt the thought bondage under the might, to resume the dignity and freedom that why "human" is human and to return to the right of the thought and expression for individual life.Sparing no efforts to explore the deprivation of the diversity of individual existence by the history in his works, Wang's intention is to find a way out for the oppressed individual in the endless cycles of the paradox historical circumstances. Wang Xiaobo has profound and watchful reflection about the choices of oppressed individual variety no matter in the Bronze Age that imperial power is supremacy, or the Golden Age that revolutionary overrides all, or the Silver Age which is of pale and helpless.Wang Xiaobo told stories of multi-clue and multi-threads quite interesting through the complicated narration. This rational and carnival text narration itself forms the transcendence of the rigid literary system and the times. Though he subverted the narration extremely, like disorganizing the cause and effect and the time order, and the narrator's disordered experiences, his novels always have a definite purpose. Because of his rational inclination about the experiences and his confirmation about his composition value, the novels have a clear major subject and profound moral. This is a unique alienation and rigorousness, independence and consciousness when he exploring the infinite possibility of the art of novel.
