| Sergej Rachmaninov (1873-1943) was an outstanding composer, pianist and conductor. As one of the greatest Russian artists in 20th century, He inherited the tradition of 19th-century Romanticism and his work was deeply influenced by Tchaikovsky. As to his piano works, He created an unique style on the basis of Russian School. The representative of his piano works was Piano Concerto No.2, which received wide admiration from many pianists and audience. Over the last century, this work has become a classic performed by many piano performers, and also the designated repertoire of many domestic and international piano competitions.However, there is little literature which studies the work in combination of a performer's experience. Motivated by this, this paper gives a profound analysis about the Russian music characteristics of this work including the piano performing skills and the way to handle certain parts of the work. Besides, some auxiliary practices and tips are given. The readers are expected to have a better understanding of Rachmaninov's piano works via the analysis in this paper. It is sincerely hoped that this paper can acted as a reference for the performers of the Piano Concerto No.2. |
