Both Xun Zi and Adam Smith believe selfishness is common human nature, but there are still some differences exist on their prospective on humanity. This dissertation is taking Desire and Self-Love as topics to understand this aspect of their thinking. Xun Zi believes there is no end on human desire, and proper steps must be taken in order to achieve a peaceful social order. On the other hand, Adam Smith is using a psychological approach to analyze Desire. He believes elements of Desire are formed when people is concerned on others" comment on oneself.In order to understand their views on Economical Moral are through the study on Division of Labor and Principal of Distribution, which are crucial elements of consideration to achieve prosperity. Xun Zi proposed a system of division to achieve the purpose, and Adam Smith believes the "Invisible Hand" will eventually sort things out for the good cause.Historical and cultural reasons cause differences on Xun Zi and Adam Smith thinking, while mutual concern on humanity is reflected on their agreement.
