The funeral which treated the body as the live person was a principal way to fulfill their filial piety during the Han dynasty. So it was much more important in the society of Han dynasty. Basing on the remained documents of Han dynasty, such as Shiji and Hanshu, This paper took a general and systemic research on the funeral of Han dynasty. It also referred to the new archaeological discoveries and the research of predecessors. The whole paper includes two main parts:The first part is the textual research of Han's mortuary rites. The research not only made use of the documents of Han dynasty, but also referred the formal books before Qin dynasty. From the ordered research, we found that the funeral of Han dynasty contains about twenty-eight rites, such as evocation, bathing, and so on. They are much more systematic and complicated than any time before. The second part is about the characters of Han's funeral. Comparing with the funeral before Qin dynasty, it had four main characters. First, most of the Han's mortuary rites followed the mortuary rites before, but also took some changes in order to cater to common customs; second, the funeral was much more sumptuous than any time before; Han's funeral takes sacrifice before the graves and the guardianship of the graveyard into account. Fourth, the Han's mortuary rites began to fuse together with the rules.
