| Culture cultivates man's spirits and art benefits man's mind. It is the important mission of Chinese contemporary culture creation to integrate varied resources under the multi-culture surroundings, and generate the cultural strength which can promote social harmony with the prudential strategical thinking and alarm, and upraise the affirmation of the advanced nature of the culture. In this thesis, we have explored and traced back to the western "Chinese image" system. First, it explores the meaning generating and changing process of the image in 7centuries or so from the time of Marco Polo, and reviews the image in the eyes of the western, and as a discourse with regard to "him culture", and pointes out when it comes into being, and with which context it is mutated, ruptured and inherited; second, it analyzes its historical tradition in common and discourse system of grandeur narration of the western "Chinese image" with its extension in dimension and constancy in time, and reveals how the western "Chinese image" displays some stable and general characteristic, and how it tends to become a kind of prototype and a culture format, thus how it control a particular discourse narration. Finally, it analyzes the implicated power structure in the western "Chinese image", and gives a perspective about how the image is regularized, systemized and permeated into power and functions its own power as a kind of knowledge and imagination, and becomes as a essential element of colonialism, imperialism, and globalization, and how it has taken part in western material and culture imperialism in the process of global modernization.In a broad term, this thesis falls under the contrasting study between eastern and western culture, while in a narrow and specific sense, it focus on understanding the multi-dimensional aesthetic characteristic (or the generative form interacted by both polysemy and ambiguity) of the eastern alien culture sample (the feature of which operation system is description and analysis) under the western culture (which main element is the fusion of visual threshold).I. Nowadays what the Chinese cultural interpretative study denotes—visual threshold, text, meaning, discourse, dimension, all of which appear a kind of unprecedented diffusion and multiple features, and these multiple even quite different in content topics get along well with each other in a tolerate and harmonious cultural atmosphere. In their relative fields, there are philosophy, semeiology, narrative aesthetics, and sociology of text and so on. The synchronic background which Chinese culture interpretive study aims at is about human's modernity design, namely, cultural transition and its reflection of the free and conscious and creative subject.II. The interpretation of the fusion of visual threshold is the ultimate target of every understanding process. In this sense, the developing tendency of Chinese interpretative study, or the questions to be broke through emphatically are, first, as a kind of rational thinking in Chinese culture transition period, to make clear its nuclear question—putting the primary concern on the creation of the humanistic spirit of people and their modernity and all-round development. Second, to transform its basic formality and return to the life reality with the exhibition of the inherited relationship between the interpretive study and culture. The new interpretation and understanding of man and society can be achieved with the combination of metaphysical and rational thinking and demonstrational criticism.III. the main aim of Chinese indigenous cultural interpretative study is not the simple analysis and description of the specific cultural sample, but denotes people's life style or explaining the nature and development of human being to a deep degree with the holding and capturing the sharing texts which has a privileged explanation of visual threshold and its transition and evolvement in history. Therefore, the correct determination and choice of the background, development and future of Chinese cultural interpretive study, not only provide new understanding perspective of the cultural interpretative questions, but also provide a kind of new theoretical threshold and expression method to understand the problems of spiritual science.The cultural interpretative perspective which is on the tiptoe of expectation seems to be stimulated and expressed as a real cultural interpretation which should be based on the interaction and interfusion of different cultures and interpretative study, displaying as a kind of criticism which transcended plot-criticizing, and creating a situation interpretative study based on the polyphonic life style. |
