Liu Heng is a writer of new realism who concentrats on humanitydescribing and insists on humanitarianism publicizing in the contemporaryliterary circles of China. This thesis is to research the deep humanitarianismsin his writing and explore its spritual sources through putting great emphasison Liu Heng's novals from the angle of humanity and hope to have a furtheraccurately knowing about his works.The text is constituted with three parts.The first part analyzes the expressional ways in Liu Heng's novals frominstinctive desires, social needs and psychic predicament. Liu Hengcompletely shows people's existence and psychic state from 3 aspects: toreveal instinctive desires such as food, sex and strength; to explore socialneeds such as wealth, power, and house; to quest psychic predicament suchas lonelines, indifference, misunderstanding and nihility. This article strivesto figure out the meaning of Liu Heng's novals from using principles ofmordern psychology and Existentialism philosophy, and to demonstrate therich meanings of human nature and the depth of philosophy which thoseworks contain. In the description of daily life, Liu Heng not only presentsprofound contradition between humanity and culture, individual and society,survivual and meaning, but also expresses his concern and deliberation onpeople's existence, development and spiritual needs.The second part discusses Liu Heng's realistic skill and writing road,and further reveals the decisive influence of humanitarianism on his writing.As a representative of the New Realistic Writing, Liu Heng persists in thewriting principle of "zero feeling" and restores people's worldly livesobjectively and calmly by naturalistic skill. It is the human concern of the writer to material lives and inner world of immensity common people behindhis realistic writing. On his writing road, Liu Heng has formed his extremelyindividual narration style after the varying from depressing to humorous. Butit has never been changed that he cares deeply on humanity, life, people'sordinary lives and strives perseveringly for humanitarianism.In the third part, the article tries to dicuss the spiritual sources ofhumanitarianism in Liu Heng's writing by integrating with humane subjectsin his works and the times background. The humane subjects in Liu Heng'snovals are multilevel and multisided, relating to instinctive desires, socialneeds and psychic demands besides the subjects of peasants and death and soon. Liu Heng not only pays close attention to material lives of Chinesepeasants but also strongly criticizes those old inhuman culture and morals.The subject of death has appeared in his works many times. The writerrepresents the philosophical thought about life by death and highlights hischerish for life and his desire for ideal humanity and perfect living in theconflict between life and death. The humanitarianism trend in 1980's had asubtle influence on Liu Heng's production. Liu absorbs the humanitarianismfactors both in Fruid's psychology and in existism literature which extendshis literature eyeshot and enriches his works content, and then promotes theformation of his universal huamanitarianism emotion. It is seen that, as awriter, Liu Heng is a serious thinker and expresser of life but also a firmhumanitarianism follower and spreader through investigating his works.
