The understanding of Chinese vocal music in modern times is a continuation and development of traditional Chinese vocal forms like Chinese opera, quyi and folksongs. It is also an innovation and reformation by drawing on fruits of Western vocal exercises and artistic expression. Compared it with traditional Chinese vocal and the other vocal schools, Chinese vocal music embodies the aesthetic qualities of Chinese traditional vocal arts and reflects the new esthetic tastes of people, revealing its own features. It absorbs and integrates merits of different artistic forms. By doing this, Chinese vocal music achieves the goals of broadening the range, unifying sounding areas, clearing oral cavity and producing the most wonderful sound. Meanwhile it forms its unique training system. Chinese traditional vocal music including local songs, ancient music, Chinese opera, quyi and so on, they all have their own local characteristics and styles. Thus every Chinese local music singer should learn carefully and draw lessons from them to carry forward the good traditions and of Chinese local music. Basing on the first creation, singers should use all available techniques to polish their works and perform them with pleasing quality. On the stage, the singers must be remarkable for both voice and expression to give spectators audio-visual entertainment.
