Yangzhou Lu See Once Shogunate Opera Activities Study

As an important scholar's Mu-Fu, a system to recruit people of abilities for officers in old China, in Qian Long's Reign of the Qing Dynasty, Lu Jianzeng's Mu-Fu acquired comparative achievements on production and performance of traditional opera and had relative influence in Yang Zhou. Through literature search, I entered into multiple aspects of Lu Jianzeng's Mu-Fu's traditional opera activities which included opera performance initiated by Lu, opera production and views of Lu and his apparitors, their communion with and influence on the opera playdom and so on.This thesis consisted of four parts:the foreword, the main body, the epilogue, and the appendix. In the foreword, I introduced significance of topic selection, objects and status of research and main innovative points. In the first chapter, based on Yang Zhou traditional opera playdom in Qian Long's Reign, I pinpointed research value of Lu's Mu-Fu spanning time and space and looked generally into opera activities of Lu's Mu-Fu. In the second chapter, I reviewed opera activities of the apparitors. I especially gathered materials of two composers, Jin Zhaoyan and Zhu Gao, from which I gained my own experience. In the third chapter, I thoroughly studied "Two Kinds of Tunes of Ya Yu Tang", two important traditional opera works created and printed by Lu's Mu-Fu. In the epilogue, I analyzed Lu's Mu-Fu's accomplishment and importance in the history of traditional opera through the impersonal factors of opera atmosphere in Yang Zhou and the personal ones of Lu Jianzeng. Attached to the end was "Memorabilia of Lu Jianzeng's Mu-Fu's Traditional Opera Activities", a chronological table I compiled upon Lu's Mu-Fu's materials collected during composition of this thesis.
