The New Century, China's Military Teleplays Study

Through a development of more than 2 decades, especially after entering the 21st century, the Chinese military teleplay has stepped into a new era, no matter from the point of views in quantity or quality. Since the year 2000, there have been a lot of influential military teleplays shown, which formed a "Military TV fever".The incoming of the new century is a new challenge to the military teleplay. As the main force of the Chinese thematic teleplays, the military teleplay is experiencing a series of changes on which this paper mainly focuses. In the view of aesthetics, "entertainment" is becoming a major characteristic of today's popular culture. The old saga in the military teleplays is vanishing, while the new saga is being formed with "problematic heroes" and "civilian heroes" as the protagonists. At the same time, audience tastes are varying. In the view of creation idea, the military teleplay is trying to break through the old way of literary adaption, and actively carrys out other types of teleplays' creating approaches to find new developing ways. Moreover, the military teleplay tends to shape characters with more humanity and entertainment.Speaking of the research approaches, this paper analyzes the military teleplay since the beginning of the new century from the views of new historicism, narratology as well as feminism. Through this overview of the military teleplays creation during the last 7 years, I hope that the paper could shed some light on the future evolution of the military teleplays.
