Mr. Hou Yimin And The Establishment Of The Department Of Central Academy Of Fine Arts Murals

Initiated and founded by Hou Yiming and other respectable artists, Fresco Painting Department set its root in Central Academy of Fine Arts as a new formal academic discipline, which completed for further step the discipline set in professional art school and promoted effectively the development of fresco painting in China. My study mainly aims to collect and sort out the historical information about social background, reasons and process of the founding of the Department and what Mr. Hou did to realize the founding and to improve the teaching, from which one can get a clear idea on the development process of fresco painting in China. It' s impossible to study Chinese fresco painting without mentioning Mr. Hou' s career life which actually played a critical role in it. My paper detailed the precious teaching data of Mr. Hou and analyzed his ideas and plans about fresco teaching and creation. For future reference, I wish my study could be helpful to the history study and development of Chinese fresco painting.
