Art exhibition is an important means of communication. It plays a key role in introducing a new art work to the public, and also serves to record the path of artistic development. The advent of art exhibition in modern times meant the end of the closed circle of art appreciation in the feudual social system, and helped to present art works as spiritual treasures shared by the whole public. It pushed Chinese Art into the age of openness and diversity, and had great positive impact on the growth of modern Chinese art. The modern Chinese art exhibition is an reflection of the mode of creation, the artistic style, and artistic trends of Chinese art in modern times, and thus should possess a place of significant importance in the history of Chinese art. However, there has been little research in this direction. Recognizing the important theoretical significance and academic value that Chinese modern art exhibition has, I'll try to, through my analysis of the development of art exhibitions in modern times, investigate and review the influence and service that Chinese modern art exhibitions have rendered Chinese art.This paper aims to: analyse a number of historical records of art exhibitions, unveil their organizations, grasp their path of development, and in the end, illustrate the relationship between them and Chinese art in modern times. And of course, this paper is not supposed to be an exhaustive one.This paper mainly includes the following: Chapter one, the coming of Chinese art exhibition in modern times. This part retraces the introduction of the phrase "art exhibition" in China's modern history, and probes the reasons and impetuses behind the thriving of art exhibitions in modern times.Chapter two, the study on how the concept of art exhibition changes during the modern times; this part summarizes and compares the different characteristics of how the public perceive an art exhibition at different times.Chapter three, the colorful mosaic of Chinese art exhibitions in modern times; this part states the positive influence different exhibitions had on Chinese art in modern times. These include school exhibitions of art education, exhibitions of art clubs, and art exhibitions in foreign countries.Chapter four, the thriving of art exhibitions and the expansion of exhibition sites; this part is about the relationship between the Chinese art exhibitions and the emergence of art galleries.In this paper, the author uses classified and comparative study, to achieve the goal of summing up China art exhibition in modern times.The conclusion is :the emergence of modern art exhibition is the result of the communication between the eastern and western art. It is the great run for Chinese art becoming diversification. The development of art exhibition brings about the opening to the outside world, which promote the Chinese art improvement. In the mean time, as the Carrier of Chinese art, the track of development of Modern Art Exhibition is the epitome of Chinese art becoming opening. In another words, China Modern Exhibition is a mirror which reflect the development of Chinese art.
