Charlotte Bronte, a famous female novelist in Victorian England, shaped a group of female images who dared to strive for freedom and equal status, which reflected the voice of women at that times. Compared to the bright light of Jane Eyre, Charlotte's other three works are overshadowed. The saga novel Shirley was one of the plainest works for the critic and gained few critical acclaim. This article plans to analyze the double themes in Charlotte Bronte's works and women's radical and conservative writing attitudes with reference to Shirley from a creative perspective. The preface summarizes Charlotte Bronte's writing and researching situation and the critical errors on Shirley .The first, second and third chapters expound Charlotte Bronte's writing pattern and dualism separately from the dualism of the themes, dualism of the writing pattern and women's unfinished independent thinking, and analyze women's radical ness and conservativeness in thinking from the author's experiences, sexual feature and social background. |
