Perfectionism is not only a kind of behavioral manifestation, but also a kind of cognitive belief which is characterized by setting excessive standards in work accompanying with excess criticism in self-estimate. The main aim of this research is compare the perfectionism tendency and mental health belonging to students of different background (sex, grade and origin, ect), and find the relationship between the perfectionism tendency and the mental health of college students.225 college students in Henan were selected to be investigated in this research with the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS-F)and SCL-90as the measuring tools. Some conclusions were got as below:1. Generally, the collage students have a moderate perfectionism tendency. They got high scores in "Personal Standards" and "Organization".2. The mental health level of the college students are obviously on the low side, there is no reason to show any optimism in their mental health.3. After an analysis about the scores the students got in different factors, some conclusions are got: the only-child students are distinctly different from other students in "Personal Standards", for the scores that the only-child students got is much lower than other students. Distinct differences are found between the arts students and the science students in "Concern over Mistakes", for the science students got higher score than arts students. The cadres of students are much better than the common students in "Organization". There are also differences between boy students and girl students in "Parental Criticism", and boy students are better than the girl students.4. The mental health differs largely between groups belonging to different score levels in perfectionism tendency. Students belonging to high-score level have poorer mental health than that of middle and low score levels. But there is no distinct difference between students of middle and low score levels.5. An obvious negative correlation is found between the perfectionism tendency and the mental health of the students. A positive correlation is found between the score in different factors of SCL-90 and the "Concern over Mistakes"," Parental Expectations"," Doubt about Actions"," Parental Criticism". The perfectionism exerts a negative influence on the mental health in some extent. "Concern over Mistakes" and "Doubt about Actions" are two main factors which can easily influence the mental health of the students.
