In 1993, Toni Morrison was awarded Nobel Prize. As an African-American female writer, Morrison's winning was a landmark, which declares a literary species marginalized for a long time was coming into mainstream-culture. In Toni Morrison's works, it's not hard for readers to find double-consciousness: racial consciousness and gender consciousness.Morrison's productions have close connections with African-American history and reality and African females' sentiments. On one side, her works are generally framed with African myths and folktales, and various of images and symbols are used, through which African ethnical cultures are reflected. And Jazz and Blues are another means in Morrison's works to convey author's ideas. The themes of Blues and ad-libs of Jazz are usually borrowed by Morrison who expresses her thoughts of protecting African traditional cultures which are the roots of African Americans in her works. Besides these, Morrison is probing into another issue that whether it's good for a race's existence with durance in it's traditions under such multi-cultural world. On the other side, as a female writer, Morrison discovers the limitation of African-American male writers. In the male-writers' works, the images of African-American females are catabolized. In the writing, Morrison overthrows males' pattern, and creates various of new and strong female images, and discusses the new and ideal patterns of amphoteric relationship at the same time.
